The Smurfs 2 Movie Review

by admin

The Smurfs 2 is a follow up to the first movie of the same title. Kids who watched the first one may also want to continue watching the adventures of the small blue creatures the second time. The story of the second movie revolves around Smurfette this time.

The whole Smurf village is planning a surprise birthday party for Smurfette. Without hearing any birthday greetings coming from her fellow villagers that she rightfully expected, Smurfette thinks that no one cares for her and walks away in sadness.

On the other side of the portal, Smurf arch-nemesis Gargamel is in Paris, France working as a successful magician. He later found out that his Smurf essence is quickly running out and will like to get more. In order to do that, he needs to get it from another Smurf.

During the course of the story, Smurfette is kidnapped by Gargamel with the help of the Naughties, Vexy and Hackus. They are Gargamel’s new creations and assistants in his diabolical plans to rule the world. When they discovered that Smurfette has been kidnapped, the other Smurfs tried to go back into the real world to find and take Smurfette home.

The Smurfs seek the help of Patrick and wife Grace in New York City to help find and rescue Smurfette. This led them to Paris, France to catch up on Gargamel. They go through several adventures along the way, with the chase always involving obstacles like the Naughties.

The Smurfs 2 is a movie made for adventure and has that thrill of chase element. It somehow follows the same movie formula of the first film, an adventure into the human world in order to face their arch-enemy. It is a fun film to watch with the kids.

But considering the overall picture, it is still molded after its predecessor, which is nothing new for the viewer, except that this time, the setting is in France. When it comes to the little kids, Smurfs 2 may be a fun and enjoyable movie to watch. I cannot say the same for parents who accompany their kids to watch the movie. They may not see it as interesting due to the lack of a deeper storyline. It is the adventures and misadventures of the Smurfs in France that hold the movie together. After all, that is what most adults look for. But since this is a movie for kids, parents should see it from their child’s perspective and look for the fun in that.
