The Linear Liner

Many kids are still fascinated by toy trains. Most toy models we see come in the classic coal powered trains that were the main mode of transport during the 1800’s and the early 1900’s. But in Japan, they seem to take their toy trains seriously. The Land of the Rising Sun is also known for its bullet trains among other things. It is no surprising therefore that they also make toy trains like the Linear Liner that works just like the real one. This toy bullet train also floats on magnets.

The Linear Liner from Takara Tomy works on the exact engineering principles that make Japan’s actual bullet trains work. The toy bullet train floats on magnets embedded inside the plastic tracks. The Linear Liner is able to float about 2 mm from its tracks. With so little friction, this toy train is able to achieve scale speeds comparable to that of a train running at 300 mph. For its size, it runs at 5 mph, quite fast for a toy train. It is fascinating to watch a toy train moving at that speed. It is even more fascinating to know that this toy train has no wheels and floats on air. The Takara Tomy Linear Liner toy train requires ten AA batteries in its charging base in order to work. It is expected to be available in Japan sometime this September. This train set is expected to cost somewhere around $305.

Takara Tomy Yababa Starter Bike

When it comes to toys, my boys usually look for some excitement. They like to play activity toys with action and fun. They also sometimes like a bit of competition to see who is good at what. But I like to keep the competition manageable and not go out of hand. And when I came upon the Yababa Starter Bike from Takara Tomy, I think that it might be a good toy for active kids who also like a bit of competition.

The Takara Tomy Yababa Starter Bike is not what you might think it is. It is not a bicycle that your kids can use to learn how to bike or speed up on the road. This toy set is actually a small handheld, futuristic looking bike. It comes with a launcher that boosts up its speed to make it go fast. When set on the launcher, kids can select from three speed choices before letting the bike blast off and go.

Kids can play different games with the Yababa Starter Bike. They can race each other on a straight line to see who gets to the finish line first. They can also use the speedsters to hit targets from a distance. The toy set comes with a ramp that the kids can use to make the bike go up in the air and fly. Kids can use this to see who can hit a certain target at the other end.  Kids can have some healthy and fun competition with each other while playing with the Yababa Starter Bike. The toy set comes with a bike and a launcher, two ramps and four targets. It is available at the Japan Trend Shop for US$35.

Tomy EDASH Series RC Cars

Remote controlled cars can be fun for kids to play with. But most of the conventional RC models usually come with the same functions that will no longer excite some kids. Takara Tomy of Japan has come up with an ingenious idea of making RC cars eco-friendly this time. In the process, the company was able to develop the Tomy EDASH Series of remote controlled toy cars.

The Tomy EDASH Series of remote controlled cars are designed to be quite different from the usual RC toy cars. They are designed to be eco-friendly in a way in that they no longer require replaceable or disposable batteries in order to operate and run. The only way to power the RC cars is by using the hand crank device that also acts as the remote control. Users attach the hand crank into the toy car and turn it for about 60 seconds. The crank generates electricity that provides the power to the car. A minute’s worth of cranking can provide the car with running power from 90 to 120 seconds.

But that’s not all. The hand crank remote control device can also move the car forward or backward by turning on the crank from one direction to another. And while the crank is being used to move the car, the action also generates power for the car’s remote control at the same time. You can say that the Tomy EDASH Series of RC cars can be considered as self-sufficient in a way when it comes to producing its own power. This unique and eco-friendly toy is now introduced in the Japanese market at a price of around 4,179 Japanese Yen. That’s just around US$52 each.

TOMY Omnibot BattroBorg 20 Battle Robots

If you have watched the movie “Real Steel”, then you might have seen a future where robots are designed not just to serve humans by doing useful tasks around the house but also for their entertainment value. In the movie, robots are designed to battle each other in boxing matches and replacing human boxers to entertain the people. To some people, such a future makes sense with regards to how people may use robots as entertaining pieces. The Japanese have started early on this with the introduction of the new TOMY Omnibot BattroBorg 20 Battle Robots.

The TOMY Omnibot BattroBorg 20 Battle Robots are actually robotic toys developed by Takara TOMY of Japan. But what makes them fascinating is that they are designed to battle each other. Each mini humanoid robots come with 2.4GHz wireless motion controller sets that allow kids to control their movements. The robot’s movements are designed for battle as they can punch with each swing of the hand holding the wireless controllers. A person’s hand movement is mirrored by the robot with no time lag whatsoever, giving instantaneous results to every movement made. The right punch combination can send the other robot down when in battle.

The TOMY Omnibot BattroBorg 20 Battle Robots can either go to into one-on-one battles or their can go on a multiple-robot free-for-all battles of up to 20 robots. It would provide a unique experience for kids to play with, even providing the benefit of exercise at a certain level since it requires some physical effort to play with.

The TOMY Omnibot BattroBorg 20 Battle Robots is expected to be available in the Japanese market by July 14, with the international selling date still to be announced. Each robot is expected to sell for around 3,990 Japanese Yen or around US$51. They are designed for kids 6 years old and up.
