The recent movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become a worldwide blockbuster. But even before the movie came out, people were already introduced to the new characters appearing in the movie. One of the more popular ones is the BB-8 droid with its unique spinning spherical body that makes it move. Toys were developed like the Sphero BB-8 that moves in a similar way and can be remotely controlled using a smartphone app. And recently at CES 2016, the Sphero BB-8 Force Band was introduced to control the toy using “The Force”.
The Sphero BB-8 Force Band is a device that you can wear like a wrist watch. But it does not tell you the time. It is actually a remote control designed for the Sphero BB-8 droid. Instead of buttons to control where the droid goes, wearers do it through their hand movements. The Sphero BB-8 Force Band connects to the Sphero BB-8 droid and lets you direct the droid’s movements simply by making hand gestures. You then can feel like you are using “The Force” like a true Jedi or a Sith Lord, whichever you prefer. The device introduced at CES 2016 is still a prototype, with the actual device expected to come out sometime during Fall of this year. The Force Band is expected to work with existing Sphero BB-8 droids. Pricing has not yet been announced.
